Babysitting Rates in Brooklyn by Neighborhood

Most Brooklyn babysitter pricing guides give you one average for the borough. This one breaks it down by neighborhood, tier, and actual travel cost. We serve 27 neighborhoods across South Brooklyn, Williamsburg, and Brooklyn Heights — the table below shows our hourly rate, the travel surcharge per session, and what a typical 3-hour evening actually costs in each area. All prices are 2026 levels, verified against our own recent bookings. Use this to budget, to compare against other Brooklyn services, or to argue with your spouse about whether the date-night babysitter was a fair deal.

How to read the table

Tier: our internal classification. Standard = inside 30-min drive radius. Edge = 25–30 min drive, slightly higher surcharge. Premium = outside radius, $25 surcharge reflects actual travel cost. 1 child / hr: our rate for one kid per hour. Travel: the per-session surcharge, not per-hour. 3-hr sample: what a typical 3-hour evening for one child costs all-in. Add $3/hr for each additional kid.

Why rates don't vary by neighborhood

We charge the same hourly rate across every Brooklyn neighborhood we serve. What varies is the travel surcharge — $0 for Bergen Beach (our base), up to $25 for Williamsburg and Brooklyn Heights. That surcharge is one-time per session, not per hour. So a 2-hour Williamsburg session is $50 + $25 = $75; a 6-hour one is $150 + $25 = $175. The surcharge is the same regardless of booking length.

How we compare to other Brooklyn services

Most Brooklyn services use one of three pricing patterns: a flat hourly regardless of location (simple, often bad for their own margins on distant bookings); dynamic pricing by neighborhood (hides the math); or hourly + travel surcharge (our model, most transparent). Care.com's city-averaged rate hides the neighborhood variance entirely. Sittercity does the same. Agency services often charge more for premium neighborhoods. Our model is closer to how a ride-share thinks about it — flat hourly, transparent distance fee.

What the table doesn't show

This is rate for one child. Add $3/hr for two, another $3/hr per additional kid. Date-night premium: none. Holiday surcharge: none. Infant surcharge: none. Weekend premium: none. The only variables are hourly rate, number of kids, number of hours, and the travel surcharge for your neighborhood. Everything else on the table is as-shown.

Common questions

Why is the Brooklyn Heights rate the same as the Midwood rate?

Hourly rate is flat. Travel surcharge is higher for Brooklyn Heights because it's further from our Bergen Beach base. Our cost to get there is higher; we pass that through as a surcharge rather than a marked-up hourly.

Do you ever quote a different rate than the table?

No. The table is the rate. If a booking requires something unusual (multi-household gathering, event with many kids, past 3 AM request), we'll tell you what the add is when you book — no hidden surprises.

Can I see the full hourly total before I book?

Yes. Use the calculator at /calculator — pick the neighborhood and hours, get the exact total including surcharge.

How often do you update the rates?

Annually. Rates in the table are valid for 2026; we'll update in early 2027 if our underlying costs move enough to justify a change.
