Waterfront Brooklyn with a suburban pace
Bay Ridge sits at the southwestern tip of the borough, pressed up against the Narrows with the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge as its daily skyline feature. Shore Road runs the full length of the waterfront — a continuous promenade and park strip from Owl's Head at 68th Street all the way down past the bridge. Third Avenue between 86th and 95th is the restaurant and commercial spine. 86th Street, 5th Avenue, and 4th Avenue handle the bigger shopping. The character here is genuinely suburban by Brooklyn standards: semi-detached houses with driveways, quiet one-way side streets, a big Italian, Middle Eastern, Greek, and Irish family community that's been settled for generations. For parents with kids, Bay Ridge is one of the most walkable-and-greenspace-heavy neighborhoods in the borough.
