The biggest park in Brooklyn, right outside
Marine Park is built around its namesake — a 530-acre park that's actually the largest in Brooklyn, bigger than Prospect. For families, this is a real asset: playgrounds at multiple entrances, cricket and baseball fields, the Salt Marsh Nature Center trails, and enough open green to spread out even on a busy Saturday. The streets around Fillmore Avenue and Avenue S are lined with brick semi-detached homes with driveways, a rare combination this far into Brooklyn. Gerritsen Avenue runs south toward Gerritsen Beach. Avenue U is the commercial strip — Buckley's, Brennan & Carr, bakeries, and the kind of pizzeria your kid will pick over anything fancier.
