Victorian houses, tree canopy, one of the best blocks in Brooklyn
Ditmas Park is most recognizable for the Victorian Flatbush historic district — grand wood-frame houses on Albemarle, Argyle, Buckingham, and Marlborough Roads, some of the most architecturally distinctive residential blocks anywhere in New York. The tree canopy is notably dense. Cortelyou Road is the main commercial spine — a real neighborhood street with a farmers market on summer Sundays, actual coffee shops, a couple of restaurants, a bookstore, and the Cortelyou library branch. The Q train at Cortelyou and Newkirk Plaza puts Union Square about 30 minutes away, which is why the neighborhood has attracted so many Manhattan-transplant families over the last decade.
