Real tutoring experience
Both sitters have tutored Brooklyn kids for years. Reading, writing, math, study skills — not just "watching them do homework."
Sitter + tutor, no upcharge
Most babysitters babysit. Ours tutor too, and it's built into the price — not a separate booking, not a premium add-on, not something we mention awkwardly at the end. Becky and Shelly have both spent years tutoring Brooklyn kids in reading, writing, math, and — for Shelly — Hebrew. When your kid has a homework pile, a test coming up, a reading level they're trying to pull up, or a book report that's been sitting on the kitchen table for a week, we sit right next to them and do the actual work. We don't put them in front of a worksheet and scroll our phones. We read the question out loud, we check the answer, we catch the wrong ones before they go in the backpack, we explain the step they missed, and we sign the homework log honestly — if something didn't click, we leave you a note so you can follow up. For elementary and middle-school reading, writing, and math, both sitters are fully comfortable. For Hebrew reading, writing, and comprehension — day-school and Hebrew-school work — Shelly handles it fluently; book her directly. When the work is done, the session moves to free play, dinner, bath, and bedtime like any other booking. Most families find that a 2-to-3 hour window covers tutoring plus the evening routine comfortably. For big projects — state tests, science fair, ELA essays, Chumash parshas — we recommend booking 3-to-4 hours so the kid isn't rushed through the work. For higher-level subjects like high-school calculus or SAT prep, we're honest about the limit — we're not the right fit and we'll tell you before you book. The rate is the same as any babysitting session ($25/hr for one child, +$3/hr per additional). We don't charge a tutoring premium because, honestly, it's what a good sitter already does with a focused kid.
Why us
Both sitters have tutored Brooklyn kids for years. Reading, writing, math, study skills — not just "watching them do homework."
For day-school and Hebrew-school kids, Shelly helps with Hebrew reading, writing, and comprehension fluently. Book her directly.
State tests, book reports, science fair, ELA essays — we sit through the full prep arc, not just the night before.
Same hourly rate as any babysitting session. Tutoring isn't a premium add-on here — it's what a good sitter does with a focused kid.
Elementary reading and writing — phonics, fluency, comprehension, spelling, short essays, book reports. Elementary math — arithmetic, fractions, decimals, basic algebra prep, word problems. Middle-school English and math at the same depth. Study skills — how to outline a project, how to break a reading into manageable sections, how to quiz yourself for a test. Hebrew reading and writing, Chumash reading, parsha questions, and Hebrew-school assignments — Shelly only, she's fluent. We're not the right fit for: high-school calculus, chemistry, physics, SAT/ACT test prep, AP exams, college-level anything. For those, a dedicated subject tutor or a test-prep service is better — we'll tell you before you book instead of bluffing.
You book a 2-to-3 hour window, typically 4-to-7 PM or 5-to-8 PM on a weekday. We show up, say hi, get the kid seated at the kitchen table or their desk with water and a snack, and open the folder. The first 60-to-90 minutes is the work block — homework if there's any due, then the tutoring subject you flagged (a test coming up, a weak area you want targeted, a book report draft). We work through it together, not over it. After the work, the rest of the window is normal sitting — dinner, free play, sometimes bath, sometimes bedtime. If the session is only 2 hours, we prioritize homework-plus-dinner and skip the bedtime piece. If it's 3-plus hours, the full evening fits. Either way you get a one-paragraph handoff note at the end: what we worked on, what went well, what to revisit tomorrow.

Common questions
Elementary and middle-school reading, writing, and math. Shelly also tutors Hebrew reading and writing for day-school and Hebrew-school kids. For higher-level subjects like high-school calculus or SAT prep, we're honest about the limit and will tell you if we're not the right fit.
Included. It's the same booking flow and the same hourly rate — $25/hr for one child, $28/hr for two, +$3/hr per additional child. Just mention in the notes what your kid needs help with and the session is structured around it.
Most elementary homework and a focused tutoring block fits in a 2–3 hour session. For test prep or a bigger project, 3–4 hours gives room to do the work and still have time for dinner and downtime before bed.
Yes — Shelly handles that. Book her directly for Hebrew homework, Chumash reading, parsha questions, or any day-school Hebrew work. Just add a note at booking and we'll confirm her availability.
Short sessions are a little tight for us because we charge a 2-hour minimum, same as any booking. Most families book a 2–3 hour window that covers tutoring plus dinner or bedtime so the time isn't wasted on setup.
Review it. We sit with your kid, catch the wrong answers before they go in the backpack, and help them understand the step they missed. The homework log gets signed honestly — if something didn't click, we'll leave you a note.
